I've been debating this with friends who just do not understand why labeling should be mandatory. One friend I had to give a little and acknowledge that the only thing Prop 37 does is provide labels that information and that is it. But I added that I would never tell anyone how to live their life or what to eat, for me I want to know so that I can decide for myself. Just as I would never force my beliefs on them, I request that the businesses give me the same courtesy. This made the connection he was looking for and agreed that if it is about choices then why not...it wasn't for him but not for him to say if it should be for me.

I find it interesting that your friend doesn't think labeling should be mandatory. If we lived in a perfect world we could trust the makers of our food. At the sametime, people have a right to know what they are eating, because we ALL have to eat. You are correct that people should eat what they want and at the sametime they must take responsibility for the choices they make.
